Polatrak® corrosion-testing probes
for divers, ROVs and topside cathodic protection evaluation

An introduction

Deepwater's Polatrak-brand probes are recognized as the industry standard for accuracy and dependability in the offshore market. Unlike other cathodic-protection testing equipment, all Polatrak probes are designed with dual elements for real-time calibration to ensure accuracy. All of the internal electrodes are interchangeable and easily replaced during routine maintenance using pluggable Ag/AgCl or Cu/CuSO4 electrode elements. The probes are ideal for offshore use and inshore areas where brackish waters are found.

The probes are all manufactured in-house and tested rigorously before being released. We use only the most rugged materials, making Polatrak probes more reliable than others on the market. Polatrak diver probes such as the CP gun and the general proximity probe are rated to 300 meters, but survey systems designed for work-class ROVs are rated to function at depths up to 3,000 meters.

There’s a Polatrak probe for every kind of offshore corrosion survey. Our Deep-C-Meter system (which includes the ROV II probe) is very popular in the ROV industry for its reliability in deep-water survey situations. The only system of its kind, it requires no interface with the ROV umbilical system. The CP Gun is the only diver-held probe with dual electrodes and a battery that lasts the entire dive season. Both units utilize ultra-bright LED readouts for their potential measurements, making them perfect for seawater, rivers, tanks, and other low-visibility areas. For topside surveys, we offer standard drop cells (DC II), and for close underwater inspection we have many types of general-proximity electrodes for divers and inspection class ROVs.

With the Gulf of Mexico's pipeline infrastructure getting older, it makes sense to conduct a detailed, effective cathodic-protection (CP) survey of the entire system before external corrosion can start taking place.

Since measuring cathodic protection potentials on offshore structures is a regulated activity required by the world’s many governing bodies, it makes sense to get as much benefit from a survey as possible.
