The Offshore Technology Conference did it again. Somehow, the gigantic annual show managed to increase its attendance level to a 30-year high of 104,800, a 17% gain over last year’s 89,400.

Polatrak appears at Underwater Intervention 2013

Just as New Orleans was bracing itself to host the 2013 Superbowl and start cranking up Mardi Gras, Underwater Intervention 2013 landed in the Morial Convention Center on January 15–17.  Divers, engineers, project managers and virtually any sort of business connected to commercial diving and remotely operated vehicles could be found converging on a soggy, chilly Big Easy.

Deepwater engineer assists car crash victims

Deepwater EU Ltd.’s Assistant Project Engineer Joel Evans was about 15 miles northeast of London on December 11 while driving to an offshore assignment when he witnessed a multi-vehicle accident just ahead of him. He immediately pulled over to help the people involved. Having completed a five-day wind farm first aid course as part of his Deepwater training, he used his knowledge to aid and comfort the injured until paramedics arrived.

Deepwater at OSEA 2012 in Singapore

Held every two years since it began in 1976, the Offshore South East Asia international conference (or, as we like to call it, OSEA) racked up its 19th edition during November 27-30, 2012, utilizing Singapore’s ritzy Marina Bay Sands for the first time. Also for the first time, Deepwater jetted over to swell the ranks of exhibitors, joining our long-time agent and collaborator JST Technical Services in their exhibit space.

Every first Tuesday in November, people all across the nation take time from their normal schedules to participate in an honored tradition: Attending the Deepwater Operations conference and exhibition in Galveston, Texas, of course. The conference celebrated its tenth anniversary this year, and – typical of a 10-year-old – my, how it’s grown. 1,092 attendees from 13 countries (and 25 other states) brushed past the turnstiles this year to view 76 exhibitors’ wares, up from a mere 23 exhibitors and four sponsors at that first show in 2003.

Deepwater hosts I-Rod night golf tournament

On Friday, October 12, Deepwater hosted the First Annual I-Rod “Night Clubbing” “Glow-Ball Warming” nighttime golf tournament at Houston’s Bear Creek Golf World’s President’s Course. For those unaware of what constitutes night golfing, you simply invite a bunch of your pals (in this case, our intrepid I-Rod clients, suppliers and friends), take a few hundred glow-sticks, some glow-in-the-dark golf balls, a couple dozen golf carts and a whole bunch of beer, and turn them loose on a darkened golf course.

Deepwater exhibits at Rio Oil and Gas Expo 2012

Rio de Janeiro, normally just easing into springtime in mid-September, was unseasonably warm during the Rio Oil and Gas Expo 2012 at the Riocentro Convention Centre. This might explain the unseasonably warm reception the Deepwater exhibit just enjoyed on Sept. 17-20. Begun in 1982, the expo is held every two years and showcases products and services for oil, natural gas and biofuel production.

Deepwater exhibits at OTC 2012 in Houston

2012’s edition of Houston’s massive Offshore Technology Conference saw 89,400 people file into the Reliant Center, which was an increase of 14% from the year before and the third largest number of attendees ever. Deepwater was part of the big show for the twelfth consecutive year, staking out a prime booth location just inside Reliant Center’s southwest entrance and maintaining a hospitality suite in nearby Reliant Stadium.

Deepwater's 2012 pre-OTC crawfish boil is a rousing success

Deepwater’s 9th annual pre-Offshore Technology Conference crawfish boil proved to be the grandest one yet. Over 500 guests managed to make 1,700 lb. of boiled mud bugs disappear in less than six hours, and also gulped down hundreds of burgers and dogs. Seven kegs were left floating in its wake.

Nestled against the Mississippi River just a few blocks from New Orleans’ hip and historic French Quarter, the sprawling Ernest N. Morial Convention Center provided a perfect venue for Underwater Intervention 2012. Hundreds of vendors and service providers for the underwater operations industry descended upon the Crescent City on Jan. 24 through 26 to display wares, give presentations and connect with other underwater professionals.

Deepwater attends EWEA offshore wind-power trade show

Deepwater Corrosion joined nearly 480 other exhibitors in Amsterdam for the EWEA Offshore 2011 trade show hosted by the European Wind Energy Association. A large swath of the industry’s most prominent companies were in attendance, including manufacturers of wind turbines, marine platforms and sea cables, each surrounded by displays of virtually everything related to offshore wind energy generation.

Deepwater adds distributor ERIKS, attends Technivent

Deepwater Corrosion Services has appointed ERIKS bv as the exclusive distributor for its I-Rod brand pipe-support products in the Benelux Region, which encompasses Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg. ERIKS bv is a major supplier of valves, hoses, seals, plastic piping, instrumentation and a wide range of other products for industrial use. It’s part of the ERIKS group of 60 companies offering mechanical engineering components, technology and logistics services in 25 countries.

Deepwater SunStation System Proves Successful in 4,300 FSW

The first ever deployment of a SunStation CP critical monitoring system pre-installed onto a subsea tree was successfully interrogated last month by an Oceaneering Millennium ROV. The unit displays the cathodic protection potentials from permanent reference electrodes installed at two critical locations on a wet tree deployed to 4,300 FSW in the Gulf of Mexico (1,300 m).

Deepwater helps to preserve local museums

Deepwater Corrosion has worked with other volunteer organizations to donate materials and labor to retrofit the external underwater steel corrosion control systems for two local marine assets which have been converted into public museums. Using Deepwater’s RetroLink cathodic protection (CP) retrofit system, both structures were quickly fitted with their new anodes and both will be protected for years into the future. Deepwater’s field staff personally oversaw the installation of the anode strings on these two structures, one in Louisiana, and the other in Galveston, with the help of some other local volunteer companies.

Deepwater’s Annual OTC Crawfish Boil Grows Each Year

Over 500 employees, agents and other guests enjoyed a wonderful sunny day at Deepwater’s Train Court Facility this year. Almost a ton of mud bugs and several hundred dogs and burgers went down with enough beer to float a kayak. The casino proved very popular (with blackjack and Texas hold 'em poker). In the end, the chip count winner (Joe Hovsepian – pictured) walked away with a new I-Pad 2. Congratulations, Joe!   Read the full press release

Deepwater EU installs nine RetroBuoys in the North Sea

In 2010, Deepwater Corrosion Services via our Deepwater EU offices in the UK successfully designed, deployed and commissioned 9 (nine) impressed current cathodic protection (ICCP) systems to 4 (four) fixed platforms located in the UK's North Sea Forties Field. The 35-year-old platforms are positioned 110 miles (180 km) east-northeast of Aberdeen in around 120 meters of seawater. Deepwater’s Retrofit vessel is replacing anodes in the GOM

Deepwater Corrosion’s retrofit boat is working in the Eastern gulf. The boat will migrate Westward over the summer and be available for South Texas by the end of the summer season.The boat will be totally self sufficient.

Deepwater’s RetroClamp sales figures reach 2500 clamps

The RetroClamp was originally designed to facilitate ROV attachment of anode sleds to offshore pipelines. The first clamps were built and deployed in 2000 and since that time we have tracked an estimated 2500 installed clamps.

Deepwater’s US production moves to a new, larger facility

Due to continued expansion, Deepwater has relocated its fabrication operations in the US to a new facility in Houston's energy corridor. The new 16,000 sq. ft facility is located on FM 529.
