Way Ahead In Corrosion Control

Deepwater exhibits at OTC 2012 in Houston

2012’s edition of Houston’s massive Offshore Technology Conference saw 89,400 people file into the Reliant Center, which was an increase of 14% from the year before and the third largest number of attendees ever. Deepwater was part of the big show for the twelfth consecutive year, staking out a prime booth location just inside Reliant Center’s southwest entrance and maintaining a hospitality suite in nearby Reliant Stadium. Cathodic-protection retrofits were highlighted in Deepwater’s display this year, which featured several versions of the versatile RetroClamp that can quickly attach to pipelines and other underwater structures. Also on display was a diminutive scale model of Deepwater’s RetroBuoy impressed-current CP retrofit; it’s a good-sized piece of equipment in real-life, dwarfed only by the massive structures it protects. The booth hosted a steady number of visitors seeking information about Deepwater’s CP life-extension methods.

More than 2,500 companies representing 46 countries were there, and Deepwater upped the OTC multinational head count by deploying its UK employees and other sales agents from all around the globe. Deepwater’s second-annual Agents Conference was once again held the week before the OTC, giving the people representing Deepwater an opportunity to review sales techniques, product demonstrations and web resources while giving valuable feedback as to what’s been working well for them.

Deepwater’s suite in Reliant Stadium during the conference proved a welcome respite from the rumble of the exhibit floor. Attendees to the booth were invited to the suite on the stadium's third floor to sip and graze a bit before rejoining the fray.

The conference is expected to have generated between $70 million and $80 million for Houston’s economy; Deepwater certainly contributed mightily to that, treating its international visitors to a swath of popular restaurants, clubs and hotels in Houston during their stay. Once againl, the OTC proved an immensely fun and productive event for the world-wide Deepwater family.
