RetroClamp CP™
Clamp-on cathodic protection anode system for pipelines

RetroClamp CP can be installed by diver or ROV, designed for pipeline hotspots or "holidays."

The RetroClamp CP is a modified version of our proven RetroClamp system, which was designed to facilitate ROV attachment of retrofitted cathodic-protection anode sleds to offshore pipelines. The RetroClamp CP features aluminum anodes attached directly to the clamp. This allows operators to retrofit cathodic-protection anodes to areas where only a small amount of additional protection is needed and a full-size aluminum-anode RetroSled would not be practical.

A reliable connection - The RetroClamp'selectrical connection mechanism has proven incredibly successful in hundreds of retrofit projects. The mechanism allows the aluminum anodes attached to the clamp to cathodically protect the pipeline it’s connected to. A spring plate keeps constant tension on the contact tip. The tip can be interchanged to suit the conditions of the pipe coating. Even concrete weight-coating can be negotiated with the RetroClamp's custom drill-tip that punches through concrete without damaging the pipeline underneath.

Applications

Pipeline holidays

For pipeline hotspots, or "holidays" where cathodic protection levels are too low and not consistent with the overall level of CP potentials on the rest of the pipeline, a RetroClamp CP or two can boost cathodic protection potentials back to the desired levels.

.

River crossings

For buried onshore pipelines exposed to brackish or fresh water in river crossings, RetroClamp CP can be installed to protect the pipeline where the main cathodic-protection system cannot reach.

Short pipelines

For short pipelines, vertical runs, and other areas where an aluminum anode sled weighing several tons is not a practical solution, RetroClamp CP provides a small amount of anode material delivered to a concentrated area.

Key design points

Easy to install

The simple push-and-twist installation means that the clamp is usually installed in minutes; the unique design of the spring-tensioned floating plate ensures that the low-resistance electrical contact is maintained under constant tension.

No prep required before attachment

The clamp can be configured with a range of contact tips that allow the clamp to be attached without cleaning or removal of coatings. In most cases, even concrete weight coatings can be penetrated, saving a significant amount of time and effort during pipeline life extensions.

Individual packaging

The rugged, airtight packaging for each clamp allows us to send multiple sizes offshore when specific target-member diameters are not known. We can accept unopened packages back for full credit.
