For internal tank corrosion, Deepwater has pioneered the TankGard impressed current cathodic protection system. Since the mid-1980's, TankGard systems have been addressing the inherent corrosion issues of harsh environment upstream process tanks and vessels, making internal corrosion prevention for tanks much easier to implement and monitor.
Pioneered in the San Joaquin Valley oilfields of California where produced water is hot and sour, with a high tendency for scaling and sludging, Deepwater's TankGard system worked where others did not, providing up to ten years of reliable corrosion protection. The heart of the system is the innovative FlangeMate anode-mount, and the Polatrak HP-1Z and RT-1Z reference electrodes, all developed by Deepwater for the TankGard system.
A brief tutorial about the science of cathodic protection as it pertains to the offshore oil & gas industry, complete with diagrams, chemical equations etc.
Abstract: This paper describes several common modes of early coating failure that lead to corrosion problems on offshore platforms. Symptoms are analyzed and solutions presented ...
For standard tanks and vessels, Deepwater provides aluminum and zinc anodes, manufactured at one of our two foundry facilities (Houston / Indonesia), both of which were comissioned and built within the last 4 years. Having a foundry in each hemisphere allows for competitive pricing and lead times for any project.
The TankGard system provides reliable internal tank cathodic protection for produced water tanks, separators, heater treaters, surge tanks, flotation cells, and Chemelec vessels. The FlangeMate anode mount, which maintains electrical isolation between the anode and the tank shell is integral to the system.
The Polatrak HP-1Z is a permanent reference electrode designed to allow positive monitoring and or control of internal cathodic protection systems for tanks by providing the electrode element on an extension wire inside the vessel. This makes it suitable for a number of applications where internal access is limited.
The RT-1Z facilitates simple, on-line internal vessel cathodic protection monitoring. The instrument may be left in place if on-line monitoring is required, in which case a condulet adapter is available. Rated to 150 PSI, the RT-1Z is suitable for most produced water vessels, with access through a full opening ball valve.
